As I recall, this was one of the big successes of the School’s fund raisers during World Refugee Year.
Bits I remember were:
Mick White's Jagger in carpet slippers - totally inspired - and we all thought he was so quiet! Chris Pichon's (I think) Cilla Black, complete with removable implants (tennis balls, really). Live band's failure to get past the opening bars of 'Baby Please Don't Go', despite several attempts.
Colin Stuart Remembers it like this:
Mr. Harris (Jet) organised the famous charity concert for Oxfam, some time I think, during 1963.I was Johnny Kidd! At least, I was Johnny Kidd for about ten seconds! My band "The Pirates" - featuring John Quarterman on lead Guitar, Tony Simpson on Bass, Ray (Joe) Tozer on Rhythm Guitar and (think)Dave Mason on drums - appeared on stage miming the opening chords to "Shaking all over". On swaggers "Johnny dressed in his older brother's leather Jacket and Riding Boots which, being several sizes too large immediately causes him to trip over the microphone lead, leaving him sprawling on the stage with his black eye patch planted firmly on the end of his nose. The applause and cheers were not I fear, meant to recognise our musical prowess!!
Bill Champney:
I took part in the charity show - I was the drummer in the Kinks! Anyone less like their drummer was me. Fat, shortsighted (haven't really changed) and as I didn't have a red jacket, i turned another one inside out which had hideous gold lining! I recall Bob Bedell doing Tome Jones, wearing a pair of army boots and two sixth-formers, one of which was Malcolm Phillips (just can't remember the other one) doing the Righteous Brothers.
